The company recently moved into its new warehouse facility on Pritchard Road. CEO Shawn Barnett acknowledged the plans for the new facility have been in the works for over 4 years and was driven by customer need.

“One of the main drivers for our company has been our ability to offer services that meet the specific needs of our customers,” Barnett said. “The new facility, which is part of our campus plan for Jacksonville, is the most recent example of our company evolving to meet those needs.”

The article highlights a few of the company’s recent accolades, including being honored as a TOP 85 3PL by Food Logistics magazine for a second straight year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– PenserSC, a third party logistics company, announced today that they have completed moving into a new warehouse facility. The warehouse, located in Jacksonville, Florida, will also serve as the corporate headquarters.

The warehouse has been in the planning stages since 2007, when CEO Shawn Barnett came on board. He and Russell O’ Dell, COO, began mapping out the future and set a course that would ultimately result in the need for several new facilities. Along the way, the pair accomplished several key initiatives, including upgrading the warehouse management and inventory systems, adding skilled personnel and offering critical new services. Today, PenserSC is one of the southeast’s leading logistics companies, providing warehousing and transportation, as well as newly expanded services, such as fulfillment and a freight brokerage.

Russell O’Dell represents four generations of family ownership in the growing company. In over 20 years with the company, he has seen it grow from a small warehouse to a company with a substantial regional impact.
“We’ve been blessed with enormous growth the past few years,” O’Dell said. “It became apparent our legacy building, which we’d occupied for 50 years, would no longer be able to sustain us. The new building, which is part of our “campus” strategy, gives us flexibility to meet our client’s ever-changing logistics needs.”
The new building was designed with versatility in mind. It is rail served by Norfolk Southern on the rear of the building, with truck loading on both the left and right sides. It is configured with single and double deep select racking throughout to provide the greatest flexibility for storage.

“Everything about this building was designed with efficiency in mind,” said Shawn Barnett, CEO, PenserSC. “Our customer’s needs change and it was imperative for us to have a building that would allow us that flexibility. Utilizing our space to its fullest potential and creating maximum efficiencies allows us to pass savings on to our customers at a time when every dollar counts.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– The Jacksonville Business Journal announced today that PenserSC has been designated as one of the Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the region. The award, which is based on percentage of revenue growth from 2007-2009, recognizes the 25.66% growth PenserSC has attained over the period.

PenserSC’s humble beginnings trace back to 1908, when Augustus O’Dell, SR., started working with Peninsular Warehouse Company in the downtown area. He officially acquired the company in 1912. The company expanded into transportation services in 1966, mainly focusing on the Florida marketplace. Today, PenserSC is one of the southeast region’s leading logistics companies providing warehousing and transportation, as well as knowledgeable consultation for customized services, storage and distribution. The primary areas of focus are the pharmaceutical, food, industrial, retail, health and beauty and paper industries.

Russell O’Dell, current chief operating officer, represents fourth-generation of family ownership in the growing company. O’Dell imagines his great-grandfather would be “extremely proud” of what the company has become.

“I hope that he would be proud to know he planted the seeds that helped several generations…not just his own family. Through the years, we’ve been blessed to put many people to work and a lot of food on the table,” O’Dell said.

In the course of the last three years, the company has made significant changes to its business model. Many of the changes were brought about by current CEO, Shawn Barnett.

“When I came on board, in March 2007, PenserSC was predominately a public warehouse company with a transportation division. We have worked tirelessly to improve our service offerings and become the complete 3PL we are today,” said Shawn Barnett, CEO, PenserSC.

“This award solidifies the fact that we are one of the fastest growing logistics companies in the region,” Barnett said. “We have certainly increased our business over the last two years and expect to continue to increase our logistics capacity.”

Overall, PenserSC was the 25th fastest growing company and was the only 3PL in the area to make the list.

About PenserSC

PenserSC provides Southeast warehousing, transportation, LTL, truckload, Florida logistics, port, import/export, rail services or just fresh ideas from the logistics team of experts. PenserSC operates more than 1 million square feet of dry and temperature-controlled warehouse space in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami. Trucking includes distribution services to all points in the Southeast, both dry and temperature controlled, and a unique food delivery consolidation program.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.–ICS, Inc. today announced that PenserSC has implemented its Logimax warehouse management system. Logimax will help PenserSC gain supply chain control and visibility by fully automating 3rd party warehousing operations and integrating warehousing with their transportation management and accounting systems.

PenserSC is one of the southeast region’s leading logistics companies providing broad customer services across dry and refrigerated warehousing and transportation, as well as knowledgeable consultation for customized services, storage and distribution. They serve the pharmaceutical, food, industrial, retail, health and beauty and paper industries.

Despite the current economy, PenserSC’s key challenges are growth – both organically and through acquisition – and increasing operational efficiencies to handle that growth.

“We needed advanced automation and fully integrated systems to meet our customers unique needs, provide full visibility and control across all services and increase overall operational efficiency,” said Shawn Barnett, CEO, PenserSC.

“I feel we are the fastest growing logistics company in the region,” Barnett said. “We have doubled our business in the last two years and expect to continue to increase logistics capacity.”

“That level of growth requires key investments in experienced staff and the right technology,” he added. “On a daily basis our people use their expertise to solve our customers’ challenges and help reduce their operational costs. The PenserSC team needs reliable systems to execute successfully or we’ve failed that customer.”

“We’ve chosen to invest in best-of-breed solutions for our warehousing and trucking operations requiring that both integrate with our accounting system,” Barnett said. “We selected Logimax for our mission-critical warehouse management system based on robust functionality, configurability, integration capabilities and the knowledge and experience of the team behind the software.”

PenserSC realized immediate improvements with Logimax. “We have been able to handle many customers’ unique requirements, improve their visibility and improve their supply chain operations,” Barnett said. “For our largest food customer, using Logimax allowed us to capture new inventory characteristics and data that no other 3PL had ever been able to provide for them. That is true competitive advantage and value.”

“We’ve also experienced immediate value in streamlined warehouse processes, greatly decreased manual processing and increased accuracy,” he noted.

“We are excited to partner with PenserSC,” said Adrian Thomas, President, ICS. “They are an ideal customer with a strong business vision to be the best 3PL provider in their market, and they have a clear understanding of how today’s technology supports this vision.

About PenserSC

PenserSC provides Southeast warehousing, transportation, LTL, truckload, Florida logistics, port, import/export, rail services or just fresh ideas from the logistics team of experts. PenserSC supports some of today’s most sophisticated supply chain systems with in-depth experience, powerful IT capabilities and facility investments to maintain its position as the only Southeast 3rd party logistics provider needed. PenserSC operates more than 2 million square feet of dry and temperature-controlled warehouse space in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami. Trucking includes distribution services to all points in the Southeast, both dry and temperature controlled, and a unique food delivery consolidation program.

PenserSC, a Southeast Region based logistics provider, has enhanced its supply chain service offerings with the acquisition of Caribbean Cold Storage.

The operation will be branded PenserCOLD and fall under the PenserSC family of companies. The new PenserCOLD, located in Jacksonville, FL will operate 1.5 million cubic feet of frozen and refrigerated space. Services to be provided include storage, cross-docking, on site USDA inspections, Import/Export services, and freight forwarding.

“Our customers have many complexities within their supply chain including multiple temperature requirements. This new service offering allows our customer’s one stop shopping for their varied range of temperature needs” states Shawn Barnett, PenserSCs CEO.

“PenserCOLD dovetails with our corporate integrated supply chain strategy and compliments our other lines of business. We will continue to pursue acquisitions that will enhance service and drive cost out of our customers’ supply chain.”

PenserSC has several other projects that are currently underway. The first is the acquisition of a warehouse company with over 1.7 million sqft of available space. This would allow PenserSC to control nearly 3 million sqft of warehouse space in Florida and the transaction is expected to be complete by August.

Additional negotiations are underway to develop a 52 door, 50,000 sqft temperature controlled cross-dock 1.5 miles from the port. PenserSC expects this to be operational by November 2010.

PenserSC , with operations in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami, provides supply chain solutions that integrate multi-temperature warehousing, temperature controlled consolidated LTL and truckload services, rail services for NS, CSX and FEC, import/export port services, manufacturing support and cross-dock services.
